THE TANGLWYST CUP
The Tanglwyst Cup is an annual golf competition played by a group of friends from Wales and England. The matches take place at a different location each year, with its spiritual home in Wales. It takes its name after Ty Tanglwyst Farm in South Wales, the dairy farm that formed the base of the inaugural competition in 2011 and which donated the competition's trophy.
The Tanglwyst Cup Matches are played between two teams of six, under a match play format. The matches consist of three fourballs matches, three greensomes/foursomes matches and six singles matches. The winner of each match scores a point for their team, with 1/2 a point each for any match that is tied after 18 holes.
The 2024 matches took place along the coast of North Somerset with a debut appearance handed to Ed Pennington, a past AGM champion. The Taunton boys face-off between Robinson and Davidson ebbed and flowed over the three days with all outcomes still possible with just 2 matches and 2 holes to play on the final day. Ultimately it was a couple of clutch moments from Hoare and Laffan on the 17th green that steered Robinson’s NWF to a 6.5-5.5 victory. Click here for a full match report on the 2024 matches.
This year Andrew Mullin and Sam Shirley will take on the captaincy reins. Robinson replaces Hoare as the President with Jenkins and Hoare completing the Committee line-up. The 2025 matches, the 15th edition of the Tanglwyst Cup, will take place on 9-11 October in Suffolk. Please see below for further details of this year's matches.
